UMR 5119 « ECOSYM » research unit “Ecology of coastal marine systems”
Effects of local and global changes linked to human activities on lagoons and marine coastal ecosystems The dynamics of coastal marine ecosystems are influenced by local human activities which, together with ongoing global climatic changes, are causing the deterioration of biotic communities as well as general disturbance of these ecosystems. In this context, the UMR 5119 Ecology of coastal marine systems (ECOSYM; UM2, CNRS, IRD, UM1, Ifremer) focuses its research on the “effects on coastal marine systems of global and local change linked to human activities, and on the organisms, populations and communities living in them”. The approaches consist of the analysis of (i) the diversity of these ecological systems, focusing on both micro- and macro-organisms, at various scales of organization, and (2) their responses to modifications in environmental factors.
